Why did you join AAOS?
Given my career aspirations to become an orthopedic surgeon, I joined AAOS to attend the upcoming annual meeting to immerse myself in the orthopedic community and connect with leaders and peers within the field at various stages of their careers.
What are you looking forward to most about AAOS?
While I am most excited about the upcoming annual meeting, I have also been delighted to learn about the numerous resources available to medical students, residents, and attendings. I look forward to leveraging these educational tools as I navigate my career, especially in the coming year as I enter my fourth-year orthopaedic surgery rotations.
What interested you about orthopaedics?
My interest in orthopaedics originates from my athletic career, when I had multiple encounters with orthopaedic providers who were committed to helping me continue doing what I loved most, which was competing. Inspired by these experiences, I am driven to follow a similar path: helping individuals return to the physical activities they enjoy. With my background in mathematics, I find the unique intersection of physics and medicine in orthopaedic surgery to be especially satisfying, further solidifying my aspiration to pursue a career in this field.
What’s is the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
The six P's, a principle I learned in medical school from Dr. Alvin Crawford, states the following: proper prior planning prevents poor performance. I find myself leaning on this principle all the time in my academic and professional endeavors.
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Daily exercise before I start my tasks. To me, it helps clear my mind and set the tone for a productive day.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
I enjoy watching football (Go Bengals) and basketball, both professional and college, and I closely follow professional track and field. I also love to try new restaurants in Cincinnati and whenever I travel.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know!
I had the privilege of competing for the University of Cincinnati Track and Field team as an M1. Last year, while competing on a club team, I ran the Cincinnati half-marathon, finishing first overall!
