How has the AAOS helped you during residency?
The AAOS has supported my residency through access to high-quality educational resources, particularly the Resident Orthopaedic Core Knowledge (ROCK) Curriculum. Our residency has focused our didactic structure around the ROCK Curriculum, so it has been invaluable for structured learning and board preparation. In addition, AAOS provides evidence-based guidelines, webinars, and opportunities for mentorship and national engagement, helping me stay current with best practices.
As a Resident Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I primarily use the AAOS Resident Orthopaedic Core Knowledge (ROCK) Curriculum because it provides a structured, comprehensive framework that closely aligns with board preparation and mirrors my residency’s didactic curriculum. Its organized modules, evidence-based content, and self-assessment questions help reinforce core concepts, identify knowledge gaps, and support efficient, focused study throughout residency.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
The best advice I ever received came from my dad, who showed me that with enough hard work, anything is achievable. From a young age, he instilled a strong work ethic in me, which consistently paid off — from winning high school football state championships to publishing research, gaining acceptance into medical school, and now succeeding in orthopaedic residency.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
My go-to productivity trick is tackling one task at a time and breaking up mental work with hands-on activities like woodworking, home projects, or working out. Shifting between focused tasks and physical activity helps me stay energized, maintain focus, and prevent burnout during long days.
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
One thing I’m currently trying to make a habit is reintegrating a regular workout routine. I used to exercise consistently, but between residency, studying, and home renovations, it’s fallen by the wayside, so I’m working on carving out time to get back to it and stay healthy both physically and mentally.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy tackling house renovation projects. I like learning new skills, working with my hands, and turning older spaces into something functional and updated. It’s a rewarding way to unwind outside of residency.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
A fun fact about me is that I’m an avid bowfisher. I enjoy the precision and strategy involved in spotting fish, navigating shallow water, and making a clean shot with a bow. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on sport that keeps me outdoors and is a great way for me to recharge outside of residency.
