How has the AAOS helped you during residency?
The AAOS has been a reliable source for various resources through all the stages of residency. JAAOS has been helpful for staying up to date on the recent literature throughout residency. AAOS course opportunities have been a great way to get more hands-on lab exposure and experience. Being towards the end of residency, it has helped with career planning and feedback on optimizing my CV.

As a Resident Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
JAAOS for research articles and ResStudy for questions and content mastery.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
One of my college professors would always say, “Progress is progress, no matter how small.” It has stuck with me and reminds me that improvement can often be more about the trajectory and trend rather than making large gains.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
Start with some of the small/easier tasks and progress towards the larger ones. I also find it helpful to break down larger tasks into smaller ones that can be completed over time. I find it much less daunting to do a bunch of smaller portions rather than tackle it all at once

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Reassessing finances and anticipated expenses. My wife is also in medicine, so we’ve been trying to do monthly check-ins to see where our money is going and what expenses we see coming up. I think it’s an important habit to establish, especially as we both get out of training.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
I enjoy most of the typical Colorado things: hiking and skiing (despite this winter having terrible snow). I’ve recently started to pick up golf as well.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I originally didn’t plan on going to college. I wanted to be an electrician and ended up going to a junior college to make my grandmother happy.
