About FAAOS

Whether you are considering becoming an AAOS Fellow or have already earned the designation, today's healthcare environment has made it increasingly important to proudly display FAAOS. By using this designation, you demonstrate that you have completed the highest caliber of orthopaedic training and bring your specialized knowledge and care to your patients.

Kristy L. Weber, MD, FAAOS, past president of AAOS, shares her perspective on the FAAOS designation -- its purpose, value, and why she proudly displays her designation each day.

How to Use the FAAOS Designation

The FAAOS designation can only be used by AAOS Active Fellow and Emeritus members who have been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS), American Osteopathic Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (AOBOS) or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). Read FAAOS FAQs for more details.

In May 2020, Jennifer M. Weiss, MD, FAAOS, chair of the Communications Committee, led a webinar to share more information about how to use the FAAOS designation and its value to Academy members.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made it more challenging for patients to select an orthopaedic surgeon and schedule surgery. Having the distinction of an FAAOS designation can instill patient confidence and calm concerns.
