Ramakanth R Yakkanti, MD
Adult Reconstruction Surgeon
Associate Director of Research
Rothman Orthopaedics at Advent Health
Orlando, FL

How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
AAOS helped tremendously by providing exposure to the field of orthopaedics when I first attended the National meeting as a medical student. It continued to provide opportunities to be involved in the orthopedic community as well as opened avenues beyond clinic orthopedics to pursue. For example, my interest in advocacy and health policy grew with me being part of the Resident Health Policy Committee in AAOS during my training. Also provided a platform to present my research to the larger orthopedic community as I had an opportunity to give several research podium presentations at AAOS throughout my years in training.

As a Candidate Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
AAOS Newsletters, Annual Meeting, JAAOS

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
“Pursue your interests wholeheartedly, success will follow.” - My father, Dr. Madhu Yakkanti, who is also an Orthopaedic Surgeon."

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
List making and Prioritization. Allows me to keep track of everything I have to do in a given week, and I prioritize tasks daily based on what needs to get done earlier rather than later.
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Getting into more of a routine with exercising and playing sports regularly and fitting that in to my current life as a practicing surgeon.

Playing tennis, basketball, traveling, exploring restaurants and new food experiences.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I grew up playing cricket, and was the captain of my cricket team in India in middle school prior to moving to the US.
