G. Dale Lane, MD, FAAOS
Atlanta, GA

Prior to retirement, what was your job title and work experience?
After completing residency at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, my wife, Carol, and I moved to Lakeland, FL, where I became a partner at the Watson Clinic. My wife and I are both natives of Atlanta, and we returned home in 1992 and I joined two of my former residency colleagues Tom Price and Herschel Beker. Our practice in Roswell, GA grew and expanded and eventually evolved as we merged with other metro Atlanta practices to found Resurgens Orthopedics.

What aspect of retirement surprised you the most?
Since retiring in 2024, I have enjoyed the added free time which has allowed me to engage in hobbies such as golf, gardening, and reading more broadly, especially history.

As an Emeritus Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
As an Emeritus member, I have been able to stay connected and abreast of orthopaedics by utilizing the AAOS resources and educational tools. I particularly enjoy the webinars and Ortho Video Theater and have participated in MOE opportunities by retaking the OTIE — can you believe it??

If you were mentoring a new member, what important advice would you give them as they progress in their career?
I encourage young physicians to become active and remain engaged with the Academy. The AAOS offers a wide variety of opportunities and allows one to stay connected with friends and colleagues. Orthopaedic surgery provided me with a highly rewarding and challenging career, and I feel truly blessed to have experienced the personal and professional growth that it allowed.
