How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
The AAOS has been an invaluable resource throughout my training, providing access to high-quality educational content, research, and opportunities to connect with leaders in orthopaedic surgery. As I transition from residency into fellowship and ultimately practice, it has helped me stay current and continue building a strong foundation in adult reconstruction.
As a Fellowship Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I’ve used several AAOS resources throughout my training. During residency, ResStudy was particularly helpful for both OITE and ABOS Part I preparation. Now in Fellowship, I frequently use AAOS educational resources and JAAOS review articles to prepare for conferences and review topics relevant to my cases. I also find the Clinical Practice Guidelines helpful when I need a concise, evidence-based reference for clinical decision-making. As I approach the end of fellowship, I’ve also started using the AAOS Career Center as I explore opportunities for my first position.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
Early in residency, my mentors emphasized that your reputation is built one interaction at a time. It’s advice I’ve carried with me ever since.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I try to identify the few things that absolutely need to get done that day and tackle the hardest ones first. Once those are out of the way, everything else on my list feels much more manageable.
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Making time to read every day, even if it’s only for 15 or 20 minutes. Fellowship moves quickly, and I’m trying to build the habit of consistently learning outside of the operating room.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Playing golf, spending time with my family, traveling, making cocktails, and trying out new restaurants.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I’m left-handed but play golf right-handed, and at one point I was a 2-handicap. Fellowship and a newborn haven’t been particularly kind to my game.
