How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
As a resident, the AAOS had numerous valuable education resources. From their Orthopedic Video Theater to ResStudy, their resources helped supplement my education and prepared me for the OITE and the Boards. I almost exclusively used the ResStudy Question Bank for my Part 1 preparation and felt well prepared on test day.
As a Fellowship Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
The Orthopedic Video Theater has been a great resource to review new and old surgical techniques prior to cases. Whether it is for a case I’ve never seen or a case I haven’t done in a long time, it is a great place to go for tips and tricks.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
A saying shared often by Dr. Kubiak and others at UNLV was, “You might not make them better, but you will make them different.” This was a great reminder to think about our indications and make sure we choose the right surgery for the right patient.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I try to preop plan and prepare for the whole week on Sunday so I can just worry about showing up and executing the plan on the day of surgery.
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
I’ve been trying to generate detailed documentation of any unique aspects of cases or patient management through fellowship to have a thorough library I can refer to when I enter practice.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
I spend most of my spare time with my wife and three kids. We love to explore new parks and explore the PNW outdoors. I also enjoy golf and fishing for salmon and steelhead.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I love to garden and cook. I think it is so cool to take the food grown in your backyard and transform it into a meal.
