As an International Resident Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
As an International Resident Member, I have found the Orthopaedic Video Theater to be one of the most valuable AAOS resources. Prior to operative cases, I routinely review relevant videos to reinforce surgical steps, refine my technique, and mentally rehearse. The breadth and clarity of these videos make them an exceptional educational tool, particularly for complex procedures and advanced techniques. I also regularly engage with JAAOS, JAAOS Techniques, and the ROCK platform, which provide high-quality, peer-reviewed articles, case-based discussions, and clinical updates. These resources have been instrumental in helping me stay current with the latest evidence and best practices, both for day-to-day clinical decision-making and for exam preparation.
The weekly AAOS newsletters are another resource I consistently rely on. They offer a concise summary of emerging trends, policy updates, and highlight key publications—making it easier to remain informed in a rapidly evolving specialty. Lastly, I frequently refer to the AAOS Clinical Practice Guidelines and Appropriate Use Criteria when evaluating treatment pathways, ensuring my clinical decisions are aligned with the most current, evidence-based recommendations. Together, these resources have significantly contributed to my development as a surgeon by enhancing both my technical competence and academic foundation.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
The best advice I ever received came from the late Dr. Larry Dorr, with whom I had the privilege of spending three transformative months. Working alongside one of the true pioneers of our field was both humbling and profoundly inspiring. His mentorship extended beyond surgical technique—he offered wisdom that has stayed with me ever since. He told me, “Whatever path you take, if you commit to giving your best, you will succeed. Don’t let distractions or external noise deter you—just focus on striving for excellence, and that will always be enough.” That simple yet powerful guidance has shaped the way I approach my career. It reminded me that consistency, integrity, and dedication matter more than accolades or comparisons—and that excellence, pursued quietly and persistently, will always speak for itself.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
My go-to productivity trick is time-blocking combined with focused deep work. I set aside protected, distraction-free periods usually early in the morning, breaks or between cases, where I work with full concentration on a single task, whether it's research writing, reviewing cases, or preparing teaching materials. I also maintain a prioritized task list, which I review daily. I start with the most cognitively demanding tasks first, then work my way down. Over time, I’ve found that consistently investing in these short bursts of high-focus time has been far more effective than multitasking. I especially don't try to work in the evenings, I have found that I am much more focused in the morning and can get more done at this time rather than in the evenings, where fatigue and distractions slow me down.
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
One habit I’m currently trying to build is setting clear boundaries between work and home life to better prioritize my health and time with my family. It is far too easy to let work spill into every hour of the day, but I've realized how important it is to be fully present with my family when I’m not at the hospital. I’m making a conscious effort to disconnect from continously checking emails and messages in the evenings.I prioritise good quality family time and carve out time for exercise and rest. It's a work in progress, but developing this habit is helping me maintain perspective, avoid burnout, and be more intentional both at work and at home.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy staying active and exploring new environments. I’ve always had a passion for sports, particularly football and rugby, which I’ve played for many years and still enjoy recreationally. They not only keep me fit but also provide a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition. I also enjoy hiking and visiting new places, especially with my family. Being outdoors, whether on a trail or discovering a new city, helps me reset mentally and appreciate the world. And when I’m looking to unwind, I turn to music. Whether it’s listening to old favourites or discovering something new, music has always been a way for me to recharge and reflect.
