Why did you join AAOS?
I joined AAOS to be more connected with the orthopaedic community early on in my medical training and to learn from the surgeons, residents, and students who share my enthusiasm for the field. I also wanted to take advantage of the opportunities for mentorship and education that could help shape my development as I pursue a career in orthopaedic surgery.

What are you looking forward to most about AAOS?
I'm most looking forward to taking advantage of resources like the Orthopaedic Video Theatre, which provides real world exposure to surgical techniques and procedures. As someone who learns best by seeing and watching, I think these resources will be incredibly valuable as I continue my clinical training. I'm also looking forward to AAOS career development opportunities, such as CV review and mentorship, as I continue preparing for a career in orthopaedic surgery.

What interested you about orthopaedics?
I was drawn to orthopaedics by the intersection of anatomy, biomechanics, and engineering, and by the ability to apply those principles to directly restoring a patient's function. I especially enjoy the problem solving and technical aspects of the field and the tangible impact that orthopaedic care can have on a patient's mobility and quality of life.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
One of the best pieces of advice that I've received from a mentor was to never shy away from pursuing a career that genuinely excites you simply because the path is competitive. That advice has encouraged me to focus less on the obstacles ahead and more on staying present, motivated, and committed to making progress each day towards a career in orthopaedics.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
My go to productivity trick is that I plan far in advance. At the beginning of a rotation, month, or even the academic year, I map out major deadlines and responsibilities in one place. It takes a little extra time upfront, but it keeps me organized, prevents deadlines from sneaking up on me, and lets me focus on whatever needs my attention most in that particular moment.

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
One thing I'm currently trying to make a habit is consistently making the time to exercise during third year clinical rotations. It can be easy to let it fall off when the schedule gets busy, so I've been working on making it a regular part of my morning routine regardless of the rotation.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
I enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants and exploring different foods and cuisines. I definitely consider myself a 'foodie,' and when I have the time I also enjoy meal prepping and experimenting with new recipes.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
In terms of a fun fact about me, while traveling in Costa Rica I was able to try a termite, and in case anyone was wondering, they are a great source of protein and taste exactly like a peanut! Definitely one of the more adventurous things I've tried while traveling.
